Julia Noran Johnston
Julia Noran Johnston is the founder and General Manager of Business of Home. She joined Recurrent in 2022 when the company acquired Business of Home and its signature event series, Future of Home.
Since 2009, Business of Home has been the home industry’s leading business media brand. Through its extensive suite of newsletters, quarterly print magazine, podcasts, and more it is the go-to source for insight and analysis on business trends for interior design professionals and anyone working in the home industry. It hosts the industry’s largest job board, a series of bi-monthly business workshops, and photography and video production services to help grow the design community. Its annual conference, Future of Home, fosters forward-thinking conversation among industry leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs about the forces of change sweeping the design world.
Julia has covered home and interior design for nearly 20 years. Prior to founding Business of Home, Julia was the Promotion Director for Veranda, a Hearst Magazines property. She was responsible for brand development, sales, marketing, and promotion strategies, overseeing all event marketing efforts, and more. In 2008 she increased YoY revenue by 23%. Before Veranda, Julia spent time at Architectural Digest, a Condé Nast property.
Julia holds a BA in journalism and philosophy from Indiana University. She is on the Board of Directors for the Sustainable Furnishings Council and the Decorative Furnishings Association (DFA), as well as a member of the Design Leadership Network and the Decorators Club. She lives in New York City with her husband and two children. Outside of work she enjoys listening to podcasts and audiobooks, cultivating her decorating and culinary skills, and spending time in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.
