Recurrent Announces New Editor in Chief for Task & Purpose, Marty Skovlund

NEW YORK — NOVEMBER 3, 2022 — Recurrent announced today that Marty Skovlund Jr. has joined the company as the next Editor in Chief of Task & Purpose. Prior to joining Task & Purpose, Skovlund was the founding editor for Black Rifle Coffee’s in-house publication, Coffee or Die Magazine.

Task & Purpose is a leading military-focused digital media outlet and specializes in telling stories for the Post 9/11 military, veterans, and the broader American public—often from the perspective of service members. Through its website and popular YouTube channel, it engages more than 10M readers and viewers a month.

This is an exciting moment in Task & Purpose history. Marty has done such exceptional work throughout his career as both a reporter and a leader. I’m thrilled to have his expertise in-house to help Task & Purpose continue to evolve,” said Jason Lepore, General Manager of Recurrent’s Auto and Military vertical. “Marty’s unique editorial and military background makes him the ideal person to take our exceptional team, and the vital work they produce, to the next level.”

“This is an incredible opportunity to work on a brand that I’ve been a fan of for a long time. Task & Purpose is known for producing high-quality work that never shies away from asking hard questions and addressing sensitive topics,” said Skovlund. “It’s an honor to lead Task & Purpose and to continue to build on its legacy. I could not be more excited to start working with the team as well as alongside so many military veterans and milspouses.”

Prior to joining Coffee or Die, Skovlund spent three years writing for a variety of publications as well as producing and hosting various film projects, including The History Channel’s “JFK Declassified: Tracking Oswald.” He also spent two years writing for Task & Purpose where, among other assignments, was the brand’s first combat correspondent in Afghanistan. Additionally, Skovlund has published two books and is a veteran of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
