Matt Sechrest is a dedicated conservationist, venture capitalist, and tech entrepreneur. 

Matt is a founding Advisor to Re:wild, which was launched in 2021, combining more than three decades of conservation impact by Leonardo DiCaprio and Global Wildlife Conservation (where Matt served as Advisor since its founding in 2008). Additionally, Matt is Vice Chair at the Tom Ford Plastic Innovation Prize

Matt is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of North Equity, a venture equity firm that specializes in acquiring and investing in digital brands and technology with high growth potential and ESG impact. He is the co-founder and Board Chair of Recurrent, which has raised $400M to date, overseeing fundraising and M&A as well as conservation initiatives. Matt also is the founder and Board Chair of North’s portfolio company Organic Software Inc., a media SaaS platform, which has $10M to date.

Prior to North, he was the founder and CEO of Waterfall, an enterprise marketing SaaS software that exited to Upland Software (NASDAQ: UPLD) in 2017. Matt began his career in investing as a venture capitalist, spending six years as Vice President of Corporate Development and Venture Capital at E*TRADE as one of its founding investors, managing over $400M in technology venture capital over three funds. He was also a technology M&A Investment Banker at Goldman Sachs and Alex. Brown & Sons.

As an active technology angel investor and Board member, Matt has invested in over 75 startups since 1997 and currently serves as a founding advisor to eight companies across media, mobility tech, SaaS, blockchain, and fintech. Additionally, Matt serves as a founding advisor to Sky9 Capital, which manages over $1.7B in technology venture capital across five tech funds. 

He holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Economics and Government from Dartmouth College. He currently resides in Austin, TX.
