Lance Johnson is the CEO of Recurrent. He joined the company in 2019 as an Operating Partner to help oversee and integrate North Equity’s digital media acquisitions. Lance was named CEO in June 2021 when North introduced Recurrent as the new parent company to its growing media portfolio. Under his leadership, the company has expanded to nearly 25 digital media brands and over 300 employees while tripling its YoY revenue.
Prior to joining North Equity, he was the Head of Corporate Development of MIH Naspers in Silicon Valley, where he focused on group M&A activities and building portfolio-company relationships in the United States. MIH Holdings is the financial subsidiary of Naspers, the multimedia conglomerate listed in Johannesburg and London. MIH’s businesses hold leading market positions including Tencent in China and mail.ru in Russia.
Lance has more than 20 years of global business experience as an investor and operator in media and technology. As an angel investor and advisor in Europe and the United States, his experience has helped him enable startups to effectively build teams, scale operations, and grow revenue. His investment portfolio has included Molekule, Salt Security, Unsplash, The Athletic, Perkbox, and more. Additional executive experience in media includes roles with Nokia in New York and Yahoo’s mobile media business in Munich and London, as well as consulting with Viacom and Amdocs.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics (with honors) from Trinity University in Texas and completed further study at the University of Freiburg in Germany, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He splits his time between Miami, FL, and Boulder, CO.
