Julie Smartz is the Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Recurrent. Her core focuses are managing and growing Recurrent’s partnerships with top industry partners, overseeing content distribution and licensing, streaming video and OTT, podcasting and audio, international licensing, digital partnerships, and product licensing and co-branding initiatives.
Julie has over 18 years of experience in media, content licensing, brand and retail development. She spent nine years at Bonnier Corporation as VP of Brand Development and VP of Content Partnerships prior to Recurrent’s acquisition of several Bonnier brands. In her time as the VP of Brand Development, she oversaw brand development and product licensing for more than 35 media brands. While VP of Content Partnerships, she focused on content licensing, platform strategy and monetization, eCommerce and affiliate marketing, streaming video and OTT, as well as international licensing across all the brands.
Before Bonnier, Julie spent seven years at MotorTrend Group (previously Primedia/Source Interlink Media). As the Vice President and General Manager of Brand Development, she was responsible for overseeing all of the company’s brand extensions across 70 brands, including product, service, content and international licensing in addition to television and video. Prior to this role, Julie was the VP of Marketing and Business Development at MotorTrend Group for four years in addition to working as the Director of Retail Development for two years. Before joining MotorTrend, Julie spent two years at Mattel as the Senior Manager of Retail Development, where she oversaw all retail business development for their consumer products division.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Retail Management from Purdue University and resides in the Los Angeles, CA area with her family. In her free time, Julie enjoys walking and playing with her chocolate lab, Teddy, hosting dinner parties and wine tasting & travel.
