Alex Vargas


Alex Vargas is the Chief Operating Officer of Recurrent. In this role, he has general management responsibility across the Recurrent portfolio of brands and he works closely with senior leadership from editorial, product, business development, sales, and marketing to drive audience and revenue growth. He is also central to integration and enterprise-wide strategic planning and operations. 

Alex is an accomplished strategy and operations executive with twenty years of experience in technology and media. He joined Recurrent following eight years with Bleacher Report, where he helped transform the business from an industry-leading display-advertising sports publisher to the world’s largest social sports influencer brand with a global audience reach of 200M+ and 1B+ social interactions per month. As COO, he managed a $100M+ P&L and led the strategy, business operations, business development, analytics, product management, and engineering teams. 

Prior to joining Bleacher Report, Alex spent five years in strategy and operations roles at Turner Broadcasting. He was the General Manager of the PGA TOUR joint venture as well as Director, Strategy & Corporate Development for Turner Entertainment where he oversaw corporate strategy, investments, and M&A across Turner Sports (NBA, MLB, NCAA), TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. Early in his career, Alex worked in technology investment banking and venture capital.

Alex holds a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. He lived in Peru until he was six and to this day Inca Kola is his favorite soda. He is passionate about fantasy football, horology, and OKRs. He lives in the East Bay with his wife and two young kids.
